Introduction

7 Minute Security is a weekly podcast that focuses on penetration testing, blue teaming and building a career in security. It is hosted by Brian Johnson, a security engineer, and covers a wide range of security topics, including:

  • Penetration testing
  • Vulnerability scanning
  • Technical security tools/tips/techniques
  • Discussions of certifications such as CEH, OSCP and OSWP
  • How to create vulnerable VMs
  • Career advice
  • Interviews with cool security people

Who should listen to it?

The 7 Minute Security podcast is a great resource for anyone who is interested in learning more about information security. Some of the topics can get pretty technical, so you may want to watch the YouTube version to be able to see what is going on, or scan episode titles and show notes to see which apply to your interest.

While it says 7 minutes….I did not find a single episode in the ones I listed to that was in that range. Be prepared that it is not always a quick in-and-out duration.

Why I like this podcast?

The podcast was actually recommended as an addition to MCR by a member of Reddit’s /r/cybersecurity/ community. They have a lot of episodes and take some really deep dives on a number of topics. The team behind 7 minute security also runs a consulting business and shares some great notes and resources on their site that can expad your knowledge. Some of their episodes mentioned freely available tools that I learned about for the first time on their podcast.
